When using a traditional helmet lens without this or similar technology, it can be challenging to distinguish between shades like ORANGE and RED. This difficulty can lead to missing intricate details in the weld pool and overlooking defects, potentially resulting in errors that compromise the quality of our welds.

The Four Cs of 4C Technology

  • Color: We can perceive a wider range of natural hues and colors in both light and dark states of the lens. So, 4C technology induces real color perceptions for an enhanced visual experience.
  • Clarity: ADFs offer superlative optical clarity, rated 1/1/1/1 as per EN379 standards, evaluated based on their distortion, haziness, shade consistency, and image angle uniformity.
  • Cut: The cut factor ensures the ADF shade and view remain uniform at all angles (see: shade chart with calculator). This plays a crucial role when welding objects that are not positioned correctly or are out of position.
  • Carat: A lower carat indicates the weightlessness of the lens. ADFs with 4C technology are significantly lightweight, ensuring optimal balance and preventing neck strains during extended use.

Real-Life Experience

4C technology aims to expand the range of hues we normally recognize through a traditional ADF of welding hoods. As a result, it minimizes errors and color saturation levels, enriching our experience with a crystal clear view of the pool and arc, reducing eye fatigue and neck sprains.

I could not agree more because my Lincoln Viking 3350 auto-darkening helmet with a 4C-equipped ADF has been a fantastic support in all my welding projects, especially involving TIG, MIG, stick, and other applications.

Welding tricky joints, often at difficult angles, is common in large projects that we undertake, but this invention has consistently delivered superior clarity and enhanced visibility and helped me pull off these challenging tasks with great confidence and safety.

3. ClearLight Lens Technology

ClearLight lens technology is a groundbreaking innovation from Miller Electric, with ClearLight 2.0 and ClearLight 4x being the latest advancements.

Notably, the brighter inactive state of ADF lenses allows us to wear the helmet during non-welding tasks, such as setup, cleaning, or grinding, while maintaining excellent visibility and a natural light state.

It is available in Miller’s T94, Digital Infinity, Digital Elite, and Digital Performance series welding helmets. I have been using the Miller Digital Elite for several years, and I can easily tell the difference that ClearLight ADFs make as soon as I put it on.
